1935 Rose Bowl, Thomas's "Greatest Team" Leaves Stanford In The Dust, Coach Frank Thomas called his 1934 Alabama squad "my greatest team," and if you look at both the results (10-0-0, average score 32 to 5) and his roster, you can certainly see why. Among its members were All-American tailback Dixie Howell, All-American tackle Bill Lee, College AND Pro Football Hall of Famer Don Hutson---and, oh, some kid from Arkansas who lined up opposite Hutson at the other end---fellow named Bryant. We think they called him "Bear." |
