1949 Northwestern, 20; California, 14 1949 Rose Bowl, Wildcats Stun Unbeaten Golden Bears, This was supposed to be California's best team in years, and the Golden Bears were ranked fourth and filled with a diet of honey and press clippings. They may not have noticed that Northwestern's only losses were to #1 Michigan and #2 Notre Dame, but by the time the day was through they were purple and blue all over, as the Wildcats kept up the recent Rose Bowl tradition of Big Nine domination. |
