1950 Rose Bowl, That Was Then, But Was It Sweet, The last couple of bowl games haven't been kind to Buckeye fans, but in the first years of the Big Ten-PCC Rose Bowl matchups, the midwesterners toyed with their surfer cousins from the West. In what was developing into a habit, the California Golden Bears swept through their own conference and were ranked third in the country, but when the Buckeyes were finished with them in Pasadena that day, their coach made them walk the entire 400-odd miles back to Berkeley, helmets in hand.
