At Illinois Red Grange----Red Terror Was More Like It It's possible that even the 1985 Chicago Bears might not have been able to stop Red Grange this day. In the game that marked the formal dedication of the new Illinois Memorial Stadium, all this instant legend did was to score four touchdowns in the first quarter and six overall, in as impressive a one man show as college football has ever seen.
1925 Michigan, 3; Illinois, 0
At Illinois Returning To The Scene Of The Crime The year before, Red Grange had helped to dedicate the Illini stadium against the Wolverines with 262 yards and four touchdowns---in the first twelve minutes, and on the first four times he even touched the ball! But this year was different, as Michigan stopped Grange cold, and prevailed in a stirring pitchers' duel by a count of 3 to 0.
1926 Michigan 13; Illinois, 0
At Michigan, They couldn't make it past the greatest Navy team of all time, but other than that the Wolverines were flawless this year, as they swept through the rest of the schedule without a blemish. After this game, the Fighting Illini were still looking for their first points against Michigan since 1924.

1927 Illinois, 14; Michigan, 0
At Illinois, Beaten Only By Perfection, The Wolverines had another fine year, and it would have been even better had they managed to get by two unbeaten teams---the Golden Gophers of Minnesota and the consensus National Champion Fighting Illini team that beat them on this late October day.
1949 Michigan, 13; Illinois, 0
At Illinois, The Illini Needed Zuppke---And Red Grange, Too There has never been a game in Illinois history to touch that 1924 stadium dedication in which Red Grange scored four touchdowns in the first quarter and two more after that, as the Illini pulverized the stageshocked Wolverines. On that day the great Bob Zuppke was coaching the blue and orange. Well, that was then. But 25 years later, even on "Zuppke Day," and with Grange himself cheering from the sidelines, it took more than memories to stop the Ann Arbor eleven. And this Illinois crew simply wasn't up to the task.
1931 Ohio State, 40; Illinois, 0
At Ohio State, Light At The End Of The Tunnel, After a mediocre spell in the 20's, the Buckeyes' fortunes took an upturn beginning in 1930, and this thumping of the Fighting Illini, their first win in the series since 1926, was one sign of their revival.

1934 Illinois, 14; Ohio State, 13
At Illinois, This squeaker of a loss to the Illini on the occasion of Red Grange's homecoming was the only fly in the Buckeyes' ointment that year, as they swept through their other seven games by a combined score of 254 to 20.
1949 Ohio State, 30; Illinois, 17
At Ohio State, All Roads Led To Pasadena, All roads led to Columbus on the program cover, and all roads led to Rose Bowl for the Buckeyes that year, where they upset the # 2 ranked California Golden Bears.
1931 Northwestern, 32; Illinois, 6
At Northwestern, Wildcats Overwhelm Hapless Illini, This was another typically fine Depression Era Northwestern team, whose year was marred only by a narrow season-ending loss to Purdue. The Illini offered little resistance to their upstate rival.

1943 Northwestern, 53; Illinois, 6
At Northwestern, Mauled Into Submission, We're not sure who slipped what into the Illini's breakfast this day, but whatever is was, it didn't leave the Champaign men in much of a football playing mood. The 53 to 6 massacre stood as the biggest rout in the entire series until 1970, when the Wildcats outdid themselves with a 48 to 0 skunking.
1928 Illinois, 13; Indiana, 7
At Illinois, Sometimes I Feel Like A Fatherless Football Player, It was Dad's Day in Champaign-Urbana, but alas, the Indiana Dads weren't the ones with invitations. The Illini were defending national champions and once again one of the top teams in the country, and the Hoosiers did well to keep the game close.

1938 Illinois, 12; Indiana, 2
At Illinois, A Strange Sort Of Season, The Hoosiers' defense had quite a year, holding their opponents to an average of eight points a game. Which would have been something to write home about, if their offense hadn't at the same time averaged just under three.

1950 Illinois, 20; Indiana, 0
At Illinois, The Hoosiers tied mighty Nebraska that year, and even beat Notre Dame, but the powerful Illini were too much to handle on this crisp Champaign-Urbana afternoon.
1929 Illinois, 17; Army, 7
At Illinois, The Illini snapped back from a loss to Northwestern---their only loss of the year---and handily beat a good Army team.
1929 Illinois, 27; Ohio-State, 0
At Ohio State, Only a squeaker loss to Northwestern prevented the Illini from claiming another unbeaten season, but this year-ending laugher in Columbus provided a bit of consolation. And with this victory, Illinois concluded its remarkable run in the Western (Big Ten) Conference, where in seven years it had lost a total of only seven games.
