1927 Alabama, 7; Stanford, 7 1927 Rose Bowl Battle Of Unbeatens Keeps Them Both That Way, The Tide was on a 20-game winning streak that included a thrilling 20-19 defeat of unbeaten Washington in the previous year's Rose Bowl. This year's opponent was Pop Warner's mighty Stanford eleven, which had swept through its ten game schedule without a blemish. After one of the toughest battles in bowl game history, it wound up in a standstill, and the Bama Boys remained the talk of the country.

Among its members were All-American tailback Dixie Howell, All-American tackle Bill Lee, College AND Pro Football Hall of Famer Don Hutson---and, oh, some kid from Arkansas who lined up opposite Hutson at the other end---fellow named Bryant. We think they called him "Bear."
